Even though we are experiencing a warm and wet winter (so far), the summer still feels a long way off. We have had a lot of weather this year: drought in May, Deluge in July and August, unseasonal cold, unseasonal heat…you remember, I’m sure. That’s why the marvelous display at this year’s show was such a pleasant surprise. Despite all that the weather could throw at us (and it did!) our determined and resourceful members managed to produce:- perfect blooms, pest free foliage, great big, beautiful vegetables, tempting fruit and elegant floral arrangements. Helensburgh and Gareloch Horticultural Society held its 168th Annual Flower & Vegetable Show recently, when the Victoria Halls was packed with a splendid display of of flowers, fruit and vegetables. Another tricky growing season with the heat of June and July, Storm Hectar and a very changeable August - so we were delighted by the number of entries.
